Mō te tūranga | About the Role
We are looking for an active, outdoors‑focused person to provide one‑on‑one support to Rick, a young man in his late 20s who lives at the Kotare Service on the Hōhepa Farm in Halswell.
In this role, you will be supporting Rick through his daily routines in a calm, consistent, and low‑stimulus environment. A key part of your day will involve accompanying him on his morning walks at the park, encouraging his interests, and helping him feel settled and supported while respecting his need for personal space.
Rick enjoys spending time outdoors, walking each morning, listening to music, and playing the piano at home. He prefers quiet environments and is most comfortable with minimal social interaction and limited exposure to busy or crowded places.
We are looking for someone who is patient, understanding, and able to build a supportive, respectful relationship—someone who can confidently assist Rick with his daily activities while honouring his preferences and ensuring he feels safe and comfortable.
You will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongside this person focussing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space.
Daily tasks include supporting with daily routines while encouraging independence to develop skills and personal growth. You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.50 and $29.10 per hour.
