Support Worker - Raphael Service 1:1
Mō mātou | About Hōhepa
Working at Hōhepa, is different from the average, you become part of our community of people, staff, volunteers, and contractors who all have a common goal - helping people to reach their full potential and lead enriched and meaningful lives in a holistic, supportive environment. We are a community leader providing services and support for people living with an intellectual disability to live their best lives and find a valued place in our society. Inspired by Dr Rudolf Steiner’s principles of anthroposophy, we seek to understand each person and situation as unique, not a one size fits all philosophy.
Mō te tūranga | About the Role
We’re looking for someone kind‑hearted, upbeat, and ready to have a bit of fun while making a real difference. This role supports one fantastic young man in his home in Somerfield, with a strong focus on building a genuine and positive connection. A good sense of humour, patience, and a relaxed, can‑do attitude will really shine in this space.
No two days are the same, and that’s part of what makes this role so rewarding. Support is centred around getting out and about, staying active, and sharing experiences together, guided by how each day unfolds. This could include heading out for walks or bike rides (there’s a trike ready to go), visiting the library, or spending time at the playground. Other days might involve swimming, going to the gym, enjoying water parks (hydroslides are a big favourite!), practising swings at the driving range, shooting hoops, or giving tennis, badminton, or yoga a go.
You will bring energy, empathy, and the ability to work alongside this person to support a life filled with rich and varied experiences. You’ll be confident reading situations, problem‑solving, and knowing when to apply boundaries or offer space. The role also includes supporting with daily routines while encouraging independence, skill development, and personal growth. You’ll be comfortable supporting personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks, and you’ll be passionate about supporting meaningful participation in the wider community.
If you’re looking for a new challenge in a role that is both active and deeply rewarding, this could be the opportunity for you.
This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.95 and $29.10 per hour.
